Published in conjunction with the exhibition, Joseon Korea – Court Treasures and City Life, presented at the Asian Civilisations Museum from April to July 2017, the catalogue features essays and presents objects showcased at the exhibition. The exhibition presents a glimpse into the quotidian and the everyday. In particular, many of pieces show how despite the austerity of Confucian ritual and tradition, much Korean art was still full of colour and dynamism, and the streets of the Joseon capital Hanyang (today’s Seoul) were bustling and cosmopolitan.
