Port cities are liminal spaces. They have existed for more than a millennium as peripheral places at the edges of the continental land masses and their civilisations. A visual narration of Singapore, a multicultural Asian port city spanning over four centuries, the exhibition tells the story of people who traded across oceans and made connections across civilisations.
Published in conjunction with the exhibition Port Cities: Multicultural Emporiums of Asia, 1500–1900 held at the Asian Civilisations Museum in February 2017, the catalog features essays and artefacts from the exhibition.
